Starts off as a cube, then develops forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. When each portion of 3 types brain going to develop into adult brain structures: forebrain, cerebrum, most of the weight in brain, diencephalon. Midbrain: midbrain, hindbrain, ponds, medulla oblongata, cerebellum. Medulla oblongata, ponds, and midbrain are going to form the brain stem. Adult structures are coming from forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. Cranial meninges (layers covering the brain) 3 layers in total. Arachnoid mater: spider web, filamentous layer, middle. Pia mater: thin vascular layer adherent to the contours of the brain. Ventricles (spaces) of the brain- csf is flowing through here. Csf is formed by the choroid plexuses. Down to central canal of the spinal cord. Clear liquid filling ventricles and canals, it flows into the subarachnoid space. Functions: buoyancy, floats brain so it neutrally buoyant, protection, cushions from hitting inside of skull, chemical stability, rinses was away.
