PSYC 40445 Lecture 2: Memory Part 2
Document Summary
Rehearsal helps you maintain information in short-term memory. Has to be processed long enough that we can transfer over that information into long- term memory. To do mundane daily tasks (get three things at the store that you can remember) Y: number of students that remember the given word. X: when the words were said in the list (position in the list read) One of the first words, two middle words, one of the last words. A lot of people remember one of the first words (high point on graph) Going down as the words get more towards the middle, easier to forget. A lot of people remember one of the last words. Primacy effect: early words are remembered well (people are able to recall early items) It spends the most time in the short-term memory. Items that are early on, are in short-term memory for a longer amount of time.
