This is so widespread adelson (1979) came up with a descriptive term: adolescent. Stereotype: a generalization that reflects our impressions and beliefs about a broad group of people generalization gap. Adolescent generalization gap: refers to generalizations that are based on information about a limited, often highly visible group of adolescents. Stereotypes are very often wrong and often negative. Adolescents are often portrayed as abnormal and deviant. One analysis of local tv coverage found that the topics involving adolescents most frequently reported on involved; crime victimization, accidents and violent juvenile crime. Thing in television are not what actually happens. Parents aren"t really in television shows but they are in real life. They"re all lazy, they have it too easy, all they do is have sex, they all do drugs. It was the best of times it was the worst of times . People move out of the way when popular people walk down the hallway.
