Religion is one of the oldest social institutions, it has existed for more than 40,000 years. Religion effects life chances and can perpetuate inequality. It helps people understand the world/ when bad things happen, and it can be comforting. Sociologists define religion as a cultural system of shared beliefs and practices that provides meaning and are not considered true or false. Religiosity: very important, fairly important, or not important.
