Should not be associated with substance use or neurological condition and has to be severe. Localized amnesia- patient cannot recall anything from a specific period of time. Selective amnesia- loss of memory from some but not all events from a specific period of time. Generalized amnesia- patients cannot recall any events from their lives, who they are, etc. Continuous amnesia- patients forget each new event as it occurs. Systemized amnesia- loss of information about a certain category (e. g. sexual abuse, particular person) Short lived reversible amnesia for personal information, like unplanned traveling. Often a new identity is taken at the time of the fugue and it is usually more extroversive than the original one. First they appeared in 19th century and fluctuated in turns of prevalence and acceptance within psychiatric communities.
