Primary cell wall is later reinforced by the more ridged secondary wall. Area between cells is lled with middle lamella: contains pectin (sticky gelatinous molecules) Plasmodesmata are channels between cells that allow cytoplasm exchange: this allows for them to assess material of another cell to see if there is virus or infection, testing mostly for amp (stress indicator) to shut down cell. Many types of glycoproteins: proteoglycans (anchored to membrane) are more carbohydrate than protein. Made of core protein with branches of carbohydrates: fibronectins (between integrin and other molecules) act as docking site, integrins span membrane and are bound to cytoskeleton. Allows communication between cells: fibronectin and integrins are involved in signal sending and receiving (dixie cup phone with string) Ecm is essential in development: provide landmarks for extending structures.
