Symptoms last for more than 1 month after the event. If it lasts between 3 days and one month it"s called acute stress disorder. Distressing memories, dreams, dissociative reactions(flashbacks), reaction to cues that resemble traumatic event (trigger) Witnessing an event can lead to ptsd as well. Women are twice as likely to develop ptsd. Almost 40% of people with ptsd have depression , 20% have sad. Olfactory bulb is very close to the amygdala (emotional memory) Sometimes are not obvious and re-experiencing episodes may seem at random. Re-living episodes (flashbacks) involve dissociative breaks from reality (visual/auditory hallucinations) that replay the event in the present moment. People will feel like they teleported back to the time of their trauma.
