ANTH 152 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Participant Observation, Ethnocentrism
Document Summary
Fieldworkers usually live among those they study for at least a year, establishing a rapport with local people, engaging in participant observation and conducting interviews often using audio-visual technology. Reflect on the difference between being an accidental tourist and being a fieldworker and the problems a young anthropologist must address. When i take a photo it is usually to remember how i was feeling at that exact moment. When i look back on it the feeling isn"t quite there but the memory still lasts. I take a lot of photos when i travel to places that i don t go often or may never experience again. I want to be able to look back on the trip with fondness and have a physical reminder of the time well spent. I did this when i went to japan and canada because these were new cultures and environments that were different from my day to day.
