Food & food safety: there are a large number of ways that food can affect our health and can produce disease. Among the most important are: too little food, too much food, deficiencies of vitamins and minerals, contaminants. Most foodborne outbreak investigations are handled by local or state health departments. However, the cdc may be called in by state health departments to help with an outbreak investigation: detecting a possible outbreak, detecting an outbreak is the first step. If a larger number of people than expected appear to have the same illness in a given time period and area, it is called a cluster. Methods to prevent foodborne diseases: the fda has a key regulatory role in food safety, including setting safety standards for food processing and distribution. The fda shares this authority and responsibility with the usda, which regulates meat, poultry, and eggs.
