There are discrepancies in how people use the terms: refugee vs. asylum-seeker, migrant, immigrant. Responsibiliies of the member states: don"t send refugees back. Those leeing general violence and natural disaster are not considered a refugee according to the deiniion of unhcr. Largest # of idps = syria and colombia. Average ime refugees remain a refugee: 17 years. Unhcr wants to move away from camps, but someimes, governments require camps. +easy to register people, easy to provide aid. If all eu countries had coordinated and shared the burdens, there would not have been the current crisis and panic. Unhcr"s role stops ater idenifying refugees, poining them out, and connecing them to host/acceping governments. 3 durable soluions: repatriaion return home in a voluntary and digniied manner (requires safe and peaceful end to iniial threat/conlict, local integraion, refugee resetlement. Goal: make movement/migraion legal and safer for the refugees.
