Took them to istanbul, converted and trained them. This group was the elite & grew very rich and powerful: non-muslim communities subject to pay taxes. Safavid empire: experience success same time as europeans did, present day iran, distinguished by its own languages and culture, multi-ethnic empire, large jewish community, some christians too.
