Barrel vault- semicylindrical in cross-section, is in effect a deep arch or an uninterrupted series of arches, one behind the other, over an oblong space. Radiating chapel- in medieval churches, chapels for the display of relics that opened directly into the ambulatory and the transept. Those who fought (lords and knights), those who prayed (monks), those who worked (surfs) No 4th group the merchants- develop later. Relic- object or bone particle or piece of dust associated with a holy figure or holy setting- only gained significance when put into a container (reliquare) People would travel to holy land and collect dust from sites. Reliquares in church to prey before the relics.
