People are not neutral observes of the world, they evaluate what they encounter and form. Attitudes: evaluation of people, objects, and ideas: attitudes are made up of 3 components, affective. Emotional reaction, how you feel about something: behavioral. How you act towards something: cognitive, majority of our attitudes come from nurture; the social component, our surroundings. Could come from: values such as religion, moral beliefs, sensory reaction: liking the taste of something, aesthetic reaction: admiring lines and colour of a car, conditioning: can learn an attitude, behaviorally based attitudes. An attitude based on observations of how on behaves toward an attitude object. Explicit: something you can verbalize: attitudes that we can consciously endorse and can easily report, rooted more in recent experiences. Implicit: a deeper feeling, not something you can necessarily verbalize: attitudes that are involuntary, uncontrollable, and at time unconscious, rooted more in childhood experiences.
