Sedimentary- made by weathering, transport, deposition, cementation and compaction of metamorphic or igneous rocks. Igneous- made by melting, cooling and crystallization of sedimentary or metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic- made by heat and/or pressure applied to sedimentary or igneous rocks. Rock- a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more inerak or other rock fragments. Mineral- a naturally occurring inorganic solid substance with an ordered atomic structure and representative chemical formula. An atom is the smallest fraction of a mineral. Main parts of an atom are protons, neutrons and electrons. In an uncharged atom, this is the same number of electrons. A charged atom is called an ion which is an atom with extra or missing electrons. Isotopes- same amount of protons with different amount of neutrons. Individual electrons move within regions around the nucleus. Each region can hold a specific amount of electrons.
