Matter is the stuff of which all things are made. Almost everything is some form of matter except energy. Not matter: the periodic table is a table of all of the known elements (118 elements = 94 natural and 24 laboratory). All matter is made up of the elements found in the periodic table. Inorganic matter is anything not containing carbon or organic life such as silicone: an atom is the smallest division of an element. Contains neutrons, protons, and electrons: branches of chemistry, analytical chemistry: concerned with the composition of substances.
