BIOL 2335 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Isocline
Document Summary
Basic parameters of lotka volterra (lv) predator prey equations and basic assumptions. Behavior of isocline diagrams and behavior of lv model. Predator prey equations contain constants for which of following terms: predator capture rate, prey growth rate (r, not predator growth rate (r) not in equation, not prey carrying capacity (k) not in equation. Prey growth rate declines as predator population increases. Growth rate of predator depends on increase of prey population (and vice versa) What about experimental set up might cause result: questions, we do not know the growth rate of the predators nor the prey . How can we see cycling in nature if model is wrong: other community members / species, capture rate depending on environment, different diets based on what is available. If prey were k, what does that mean for predators: when prey reaches k, there will be no more predators, at low population of prey, predators will also be low.
