Types of performing theaters: educational theatre. Theatre we nd at schools (high school, college, etc. Purpose = train young performers and designers: entertaining people is secondary to it"s purpose for educating. The quality may be good or bad, it"s a learning experience so don"t expect perfection: community theatre. Non-professional theatre put on by groups or guilds which may charge admission for a fundraiser or a way to keep the theatre going. Usually the people in these kinds of theatre productions are untrained amateurs with jobs, and can"t dedicate so much time to the play. Having fun is the primary goal: semi-professional theatre. A theatre company that will give their staff a stipend (= a fee for their time) but nothing that can be considered a pay. Often uses staff that are trained but are not working in professional companies. Usually young people who have some training, but are using it as a way to build their resume.
