PSYCH 115 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Learned Helplessness, Psychopathology, Psych
Document Summary
Early learning affects cognitive function and possible expression of genes. Operant and classical conditional can play a role. Implicit memory: someone has clearly learned something but cannot state why that is/when and where they learned it. Implicit cognition: cognitive processes of unconscious that are difficult to measure because people cannot verbalize them, as they are not even aware of them. Cognitive science: concerned with how we acquire/process information and how we store and ultimately retrieve it. Condition where a person begins to believe they have no control over their life. Modeling/observational learning: learning through observation/imitation of the behavior of other individuals and the consequences of their behavior. Cognitive-behavioral therapy: (cbt) group of treatment procedures aimed at identifying/modifying faulty thought processes, attitudes/attributions, and problem behaviors. Disruptive emotions can be tied to psychopathology. Fight or flight response: biological reaction to alarming stressors that muster body"s resources (e. g. blood flow/respiration) to resist or flee the threat.
