PSYCH 115 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Cell Nucleus, Syphilis, Attachment Disorder
Document Summary
Often happens to kids who experience extreme neglect/abuse when young. Child will very seldom seek out caregiver for protection, support, and nurturance and will seldom respond to offers from caregivers to provide care. There are often breakdowns of international adoptions because of this. People with this, also, have differences in brain functioning/brain development. High percentage of learning disabilities/adhd with this (due to neglect and abuse) Dual diagnoses are common with this (e. g. reactive attachment disorder with schizophrenia) Gene-environment correlation model: hypothesis that people with genetic predisposition for disorder may also have genetic tendency to create environmental risk factors that promote the disorder. E. g. genetics such as depression, anger, temperament can lead to divorce which will only lead to further problems. People does something that gets them rejected -> they become depressed -> acts out and experiences more rejection -> becomes more depress and so . Epigenetics/nongenomic inheritance of behavior inheriting genetics, but not through genes.
