Opioids : opium and its derivatives: morphines, heroin, and codeine: moderate dose relieve pain, most abused drug currently, in 2015, nearly 7% of the us population misused prescription pain medications. More women than men use pain medications but more men abused pain medications. Misuses substantially higher for white americans compared to any other racial/ethnic group. Opioids produce euphoria, drowsiness, sometimes a lack of coordination. Rush -- a feeling of warm, diffusing ecstasy immediately after injection. Opioid withdrawal symptoms (about 8 hours after injection) Flu-like symptoms: muscle pains, sneezing, and sweating. Uncontrollable muscle twitching, cramps, chills alternating with excessive flushing and sweating, and a rise in heart rate and blood pressure. Diminish gradually over a 5-to-10 day period.
