Studied the saliva of dogs- psychic reflexes. Presented meat powder to dogs and wanted to see their reaction. He learned that dogs accustomed to the procedure would start salivating before the meat powder was presented. By clicking a tone he wanted to see the response of the dog to salivating. There was no association between the meat powder and salivation(natural- nothing was learned) Unconditioned stimulus (us) is a stimulus that evokes an unconditioned response with- out previous conditioning. Unconditioned response (ur) is an unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus that occurs without previous conditioning. But when the tone was introduced- conditioned association. Conditioned stimulus (cs) is a previously neutral stimulus that has, through conditioning, acquired the capacity to evoke a conditioned response. Conditioned response (cr) is a learned reaction to a conditioned stimulus that occurs because of previous conditioning. Classical conditioning plays a key role in shaping emotional responses.
