Document Summary
Imani cezanne"s "angry black woman" is one of my favorite poems. I actually saw this video on youtube when it first came out and made it my anthem that year. Society sees an (cid:1688)angry black woman(cid:1689) as sassy and loud, and i love how cezanne portrays that in her message. She is defending her view on how if a white woman was angry and loud, they would not be given a name to oppress their actions. Braids, music, and dance are just a few examples of how american society has celebrated black culture, but still passes judgment on them. Black women can be called names and treated with disrespect but our society revels in the black image. It is okay to act black if you are white, (cid:1688)everybody wants to be me but won"t let me be me(cid:1689), but is repulsed if you are black and act the way society has portrayed you.
