New england colonies: tobacco farms, freedom of speech did not really exist. You could be brought into court for cursing, insulting king, insulting religion, slandering a husband, and adultery: husbands worked around the house since they were typically farmers. If you were rich, prosperous you d be saved; therefore they were treated the best, seen as community leaders and given land. If you were poor, jobless, and unlucky you were seen as damned: truly religious if attended church services, read the bible for themselves, and listen to puritan ministers give sermons. Average puritan listened to about 15,000 sermons in their life: puritans are the ones that allowed women to separate from a marriage. Different from other colonies: made money trading sh with england. Women: necessary for civilization, did economical work like make food, candles, weaved cloth, made beer, preserved meat, made soap, made towels, made medicine, etc, expected to get married.
