Three assumptions: knowledge is constructed, learning is in action (we actively construct our own understanding of the world), truth is unknowable, john green: learning and cartography. A safe environment where people share ideas freely: two central ideas of the constructivist view of learning. Learners are active in constructing their own knowledge: we are active builders individually or socially of our own knowledge. Social interactions are important in this knowledge construction process: constructivist learning perspectives consider a wide-range of social influences, such as those stemming from peoples" culture, history, and interaction with others, cognitive and social constructivism. Radical constructivism: no objective reality, only individuals" beliefs perspective, debates among different approaches to constructivism. Characteristics of student-centered learning environment: complex learning environment: ill-defined real-world problem, collaboration, encourage different approaches, aware of the knowledge constructing process. Characteristics of scaffolding: contingency support, fading, transferring responsibility, student-centered teaching approach: inquiry and problem-based learning.
