Document Summary

Muddle in the middle term applied to link erectus to neanderthals. Homo erectus lived along side many homo species such as: homo heidelburgensis homo antecessor. General characteristics: brain expansion increased parietal breadth decrease in molars. Type of archaic homo most recently discovered (2010) Robust anatomy like neanderthal, yet teeth like erectus. Dna indicates genetically distinct from neanderthals and modern humans, yet contributed substantial genetic info to both. Often debated whether or no they"re a distinct homo species, or a homo sapiens sub-species (homo neanderthalensis vs homo sapiens neanderthalensis) classic neanderthals from western europe coinciding roughly w/ the last glaciation (75k-10k yrs ago) More robust bodies show a lot of large muscle attatchemnts. Led to the stereotype portrayl of these savage cavemen. Was seen as hunched over, but thats b/c that fossil had spinal osteoarthritis. An established accumulation derived from the above procedure. All conclusions are subject to continuing challenge conclusions can be falsified (karl popper)
