Document Summary
To see the eye as an optical instrument. The opening of the aperture is measured in f-numbers or f-stops: f-number= focal length/ aperture diameter= f/d. The choice of focal length for a camera depends on the size of the film (or detector array) and desired angle (or field of view) Eyeball optics and electro-chemistry turns light into images. Defects in vision: myopia (nearsightedness) is a condition which presents as a difficulty bringing distant objects into focus, hyperopia (farsightedness) is difficulty bringing objects close to the eye into focus. In a myopic eye an object at infinity is focused in front of the retina so the image created at the retina is fuzzy or out of focus. The far point (the point where images can be resolved in focus) in these individuals is thus closer than infinity compared to those with normal vision.
