Jack kirby did some research digging at freud"s ideas on homosexuality: constitutional bisexuality: humans start out bisexual, heterosexuality= outcome of successful sexual maturation. Resistance- as the patient"s defenses are threatened by the probing psychoanalyst, the patient might unconsciously set up obstacles to progress. Transference- the patient begins to react to the analyst as if he/she were an important figure from the patient"s own life. The patient displaces past or present feelings toward someone from his/her life onto the analyst. Contributions of freud"s theory: he started the importance of the unconscious mind, groundbreaking. Influence on modern psychotherapy: talking cure , free association, transference. Influence on research topics: unconscious motivations, defense mechanisms. Influence on western culture: terminology - freudian slip , conflict explanations of behavior, his ideas are incorporated into daily life- if someone says that a person"s current problems are a result of poor parenting that"s a reason.
