10-12% of the world population is left-handed. 10-12% of neanderthals were left handed bc of cave paintings. Human brains are asymmetrical, larger on the dominant side. Left handedness must confer some type of advantage bc of its persistence for at least 2 mil yrs. Both right and left handedness have advantages. In every language of the world, the word left is negative. Dichotomy - if the left is bad the right is good. Cesare lombroso 1903 - created modern criminology. Argument - as man advances in civilization, more righthandedness occur. Left handers are biological regressions to primitive mentalities. Alternative popular view, 1880"s -2013: right hemisphere = creativity. Ambidextral culture society - tried to make everyone ambidextrous. Robert hetz - pre eminence of the right hand 1919. Predominance of right handedness not natural, but constructed bc binary oppositional view on the world. Ending discrimination against leftiness would allow access to both hemispheres.
