The amount of work done by a rope that lifts a 200 kg crate at a constant speed to a height of 2 m from the ground is ~4000 j. When the force has a component in the direction of the displacement, work is positive. When the force has a component opposite to the direction of the displacement, work is negative. When the force is perpendicular to the direction of the displacement, the force does no work on the object.
