Erik weihenmayer and hannah gavios broke those barriers and remodel both society and themselves so that their impairments don"t become disabilities. Weihenmayer overcame his eye disease and blindness and became more athletic and even learned to climb. Ultimately, his story is a good example of the social model of disability. Greenfeld states excelling as an athlete was the result of accepting his disability rather than denying it demonstrating that acceptance and change in attitude were needed to excel in his life.
