Biomes are important because they house the plants and animals of the world. Coniferous forest, the desert, and the grassland: aquatic the planet. There are two main categories of aquatic biomes: freshwater regions and marine regions. Freshwater regions include ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, and wetlands. Marine regions include oceans, coral reefs, and estuaries. Ponds and lake can range dramatically in size from a few square meters to thousands of square kilometers. They are divided into three different zones determined by depth and distance from the shoreline: the littoral zone, the limnetic zone, and the profundal zone. The littoral zone is the topmost zone which is warmest since it absorbs most of the sun"s heat. It houses several species like algae, aquatic plants, grazing snails, clams, insects, crustaceans, fishes and amphibians.
