People could be reported to huac as being communist (beliefs, type of music you listen to, etc. ) American citizens put on trial for believing we shouldn"t be bombing communist countries. Hollywood producers; all reported to huac and called in front of congress; all 10 of them said they had first amendment (free speech) rights and they plead the 5th amendment (don"t say anything) All 10 sentenced to prison time for not saying anything. Everyone in broadway/hollywood said they were going to blacklist anyone who goes against the government. Going along with congress and testifying that you had witnessed someone else doing something communist.
