Generativity vs. stagnation (middle adulthood: establishing and guiding the next generation, not only having and caring for children, but also serving as a mother, teacher, coach, etc, stagnation = focusing on one"s own self-interest without concern for others. Basically, generativity peaks in midlife: critique, possible cohort effect, midlife: baby boomers (born after wwii, emerging adults: me generation of the 1980"s (born in the. 1970"s: old adults: experienced the great depression (born in the 1920"s) Generativity and well being: there is a positive association between generativity and well being at midlife (ackerman et al. , 2000; westermeyer, 2004, self-contentment is higher in midlife than any other stage of life (keyes et al. , 2002; helson et al. , 2002: heightened sense of self-understanding and self-acceptance, possibilities are limited but people try to make the most of the life they have, midlife crisis is a myth (brim, 1999)
