Document Summary

Capacity is the maximum load of solid particles that a stream is able to transport per unit of time. Competitive is the maximum size of a particle that a stream is able to carry. Base level is the lowest elevation to which a stream erodes. It occurs wherever a stream enters a standing body of water. Transgression is when sea level rises, it causes the gradient (slope) and velocity to decrease. Gradient (slope) increases, velocity increases and regression causes erosion to occur. Two big factors alter sea level: glaciers: the melting of glaciers cause sea level to rise, the freezing of glaciers lowers sea level, tectonics (movement of the earth): continental uplift causes sea level to fall. Sea floor spreading is when new oceanic crust is produced at the crest of mid-ocean ridges, which are the sites of divergence. Fast sea floor spreading causes sea level to rise, slow sea floor spreading causes sea level to fall.
