Document Summary

Energy is the ability to do work and generally occurs when something moves (ex. The forms of energy include mechanical energy, which is associated with machines and objects in motion (wind water falling objects). Chemical energy is the energy stored in chemical bonds and is released when those bonds break (ex. Radiant energy is a form of energy traveling through space (ex. Electrical energy is the electromagnetic interactions of charged particles. Nuclear energy are the reactions involving the nucleus of atoms (ex. The 1st law of thermodynamics states energy cannot be created nor destroyed unless the total amount of energy remains constant. This law is also referred to as the law of conservation of energy. The 2nd law of thermodynamics states that natural processes move toward a state of greater disorder. Entropy is a quantitative measure of the disorder in a system, even though energy is neither lost nor gained it is merely transformed from one form to another.
