Document Summary

Most volcanoes are located at the pacific ring of fire, mostly on plate boundaries. The main pipe of a volcano is called the conduit. The opening at the top is called the vent. The other opening is known as the crater depression. After the top of a volcano explodes, it is called the caldera, which is a giant depression at the top of the volcano. Eruptions are more or less explosive depending on the gasses. The more gasses that are emitted during an eruption, the more explosive the eruption will be. A volcano"s eruptio(cid:374) also depe(cid:374)ds o(cid:374) its viscosity. The more viscous an eruption, the more explosive. The viscosity of a volcano means the resistance of flow. Viscosity is determined by temperature and silica content. The higher the temperature, the higher the viscosity. The lower the silica content, the lower the viscosity.
