MFE 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Oxy-Fuel Combustion Process, Oxy-Fuel Welding And Cutting, Fuel Gas

22 views2 pages

Document Summary

Welding through melting of base metal and if necessary ller materials. Oxyfuel: melting energy comes from the combustion of fuel gases such as acetylene, propane, and hydrogen with oxygen. Arc: melting energy comes from an electric arc. Other: various heating sources such as laser and electron beam. Oxygen plus fuel gas combust to produce heat. An external ller rod can be added to the weld pool. Oxyfuel can also be used for brazing, soldering and cutting operations. A consumable ller rod is dipped into the weld pool where it melts lling the gap between the workpieces. To ensure correct connections, all threads on acetylene ttings are left-handed, whereas those for oxygen are right-handed. Oxygen regulators are usually painted green, acetylene regulators red. Because all that is needed to weld with oxyfuel welding are fuel and oxygen cylinders, hoses and a torch it is the most portable welding process available.
