Antianxiety drugs (minor tranquilizers or anxiolytic) help reduce tension and anxiety [ex. Antidepressant drugs-help improve mood of people who are depressed [zoloft, prozac, lexapro] Antibipolar drugs (mood stabilizers)-help stabilize the moods of those with a bipolar disorder of mania to depression [lithium] Antipsychotic drugs-help reduce confusion, hallucinations, and delusions of psychotic disorders, disorders marked by a loss of contact with reality [seroquel, risperdal, haldol] Psychodynamic model-abnormal behavior caused by underlying unconscious. Behavioral model-people are the sum total of their learned behaviors. Cognitive model-abnormal functioning can result from several kinds of cognitive problems. Humanistic existential model-those who choose to hide from responsibility and choice will view themselves as helpless and weak and may live empty, inauthentic, and dysfunctional lives. Sociocultural model-abnormal behavior is best understood in light of the broad forces that influence an individual.
