Mind-set affects motivation: fixed mind-set more likely to give up and do poorly on subsequent tasks after failure. 2-factor theory of emotion (schachter and singer, 1960s) Emotion=physical arousal + a label that we give it: label= a cognition; result of experience and environmental cues. 2 sources of information about our own feelings: Intrinsic: pursuing a goal/engaging in an activity because we enjoy it or find it. Absence of an external reward or pressure. Extrinsic: pursuing a goal because of external rewards or pressures: Social comparison theory: compare themselves to others. People want accurate feedback about their abilities and attitudes.
