Layers of the earth: lithosphere (life) Plate boundaries: earthquakes and plate boundaries. Boundary types: convergent- normal fault, divergent- reverse flight, transform- strike-slip fault. Minerals/ rocks: fixed structure, fixed chemistry (quartz) 3 types of rocks (iggy, seddy, metty: rock cycle. Diastrophism- pressure = deformation (bends, folds, fault) Weather = short term, climate = long term. Temperature inversion; term air trapped in air loft (see slides) Convergence low winds crash into each other, convectional air rises because of heat of surface, orographic bumps into mountain, frontal (see above notes on 4) Industrial revolution- shift in use not first pollution problem. Fossil fuels: coal- most abundant dirtiest, oil- least abundant, most used, natural gas- cleanest of them. Nuclear fission; future / conventional (fusion) current. Look over the renewables: site consideration. Global warming / climate change (see notes), redistribution of weather patterns. Land- mining, dredging, surface mining = big problem same with underground mining.
