MECE E1001X Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Direct Metal Laser Sintering, Polyamide, Electronic Body Music
Document Summary
During printing, material is deposited in single layers that fuse together to create a 3d printed object. Plastic filament is fed through a heated nozzle where the material is melted and deposited onto a build platform. As layers are deposited onto the platform, each successive layer fuses on top of the other until the 3d object is complete. A specific wavelength of light solidifies the liquid via a process called photopolymerization and builds objects layer by layer. Instead of jetting drops of ink, the printer ets drops of photopolymer that solidify when exposed to uv light. A roller puts a thin layer of powder on a platform. A special print head places a binding agent at specific points, printing a thin layer of your model that is able to bind to subsequent layers. Material: ceramics, multicolor, steel, high detail stainless steel. Principles printer is heated up to just below the melting point of the powder.
