PSY 252 Lecture 7: Week 7: Tuesday
Document Summary
Myth #6: perception is a single system. You can see multiple systems even just within the eye. Retina consists of five layers of cells. Sample test question: draw brain and label pathway and where it goes. There are two types of photoreceptors: there are two distinct systems (do not interact at all) Cones recognize color are called the daytime system: there are three kinds of cones (red, green, blue) Red, green, and blue are not separate systems because they interact with each other through ganglion cells. Cones are concentrated in the fovea: to see color better, look directly at it. Rods are referred to as the night system and there is only one kind (cannot see color, that"s why colors are dull at night) Rods are concentrated in the near periphery (just outside the fovea) No rods in the fovea (this is good because it leaves more room for cones)
