Culture- the entire way of life of a group of people (including both material and symbolic elements) that acts as a lens through which one views the world and that is passed from one generation to the next. Socialization- the process of learning and internalizing values, beliefs, and norms of our social group, by which we become functioning members of society, learning culture. Xenophobia- the unreasonable fear and hatred of foreigners or people from other cultures. Cultural relativism- the principle of understanding other cultures on their own terms, rather than judging or evaluating according to one"s own culture, progression from ethnocentrism, kinder and more forgiving and accepting. Cultural universal- a common practice or belief found in every culture. Material culture- the physical objects associated with a cultural group that are given social meaning. Nonmaterial culture- the ideas associated with a cultural group, including ways of thinking and ways of behaving.
