Violence in north american sport: violent actions have always been part of sport, boxing, wrestling, ufc/mma. Consequences of violence: concussions- currently considered most serious sports injury in north. In 2010, 21% of nfl players were placed on season-ending injured reserve. In 2009, 55,000 concussions in hs football, 29,167 in girls soccer, 20,929 in boys soccer: sport and violence are inextricably linked. Borderline violence: prohibited by official rules but routinely occur and become accepted, late hits in football, hockey fist-fighting, brushback pitch in baseball, high tackle in soccer, flagrant foul in basketball, generally viewed as acceptable to, (cid:498)get the edge(cid:499)
