Not really part of the skin, it"s the layer that is under the skin. As they produce the protein, it accumulates in the cell, it squeezes out cytoplasm and nucleus and the cell dies (barrier between living and dead cells) Majority of the cells in the epidermis, but not the only cells. 2 weeks for cells to leave replace entire epidermis every 25-45 days. There are two things we said about melanin. Genetic differences between races (more melanocytes, darker skin) In the pancreas gland (exocrine and endocrine portions) Endocrine portion of the pancreas is called langerhan"s cells. Merkel cells (sensory cell located at epidermal/dermal border) Called prickly because of the intermediate filaments in this layer form desmosomes.
