In ancient times people believed illness/disease was a result of their bad behavior. People began to ask questions about the true nature of disease. Pasture and delafond: scientists that worked on the anthrax problem: pasture tried to nd a vaccine for rabies, attenuation of pathogens until they become weak then turning them into a vaccine. Disease can be infectious or noninfectious: infectious: u, cholera, meningitis, malaria, tuberculosis, aids/hiv, noninfectious: cancer, diabetes, heart/lung disease. The body has two lines of defense: primary: 1st line of defense. Nictitating membrane: 3rd eyelid , the hardarian gland that produces antibodies in tears: secondary: made up of innate immunity (born with it) and adaptive/acquired immunity. Innate: neutra ls- belong to granulocytes, #1 cell. Lymphocytes: t cells and b cells, generally reside in the lymph nodes and produce speci c responses. T cells: assist in education and activation of b cells called c4+ helper cells, cd8+ cells are killer cells, look for viruses.
