Formally proposed to 2nd continental congress on june 7, 1776. Approved the document on july 4th 1776. Congress writes articles on confederation: aug. nov. 1776 and sends to states for ratification. States ratify in jan. 1781 when disputes over western land settle. Articles provide for: confederation of sovereign states, one house legislature, power to raise an army and nave, conduct diplomacy, make treaties, print currency, confederation congress must ask states for tax money. Expedition of british and indians would move across mohawk trail to albany. Goes by ship to capture philadelphia on sept 11. Moves south from montreal with 1800 loyalists and indians to land near plattsburgh.
