While wwii was being fought, a cold war was brewing on the back-burner. The united states along with other western allies took a guarded approach to wwii. By 1943, liberated italians on their fascist regime one that was friendly to them, which did not have the okay from stalin. It was not until d-day at normandy when the united states got involved. This did not go over well with stalin. This resulted in a lot of intense fighting occurring, stalin then began to fight for a more united western front, but of course, the united states stood by their choice of a cautious approach. Upwards of 25 million lost their lives and another 25 million became homeless that being the result of 1,700 houses and 70,000 villages being destroyed.
