Document Summary
Describe hearing loss as a whole: degree, type, configuration. Possible etiology consider case history, subjective tests, objective tests. What else could you do that would be helpful to confirm diagnosis or when making recommendations. Recommendations be specific (treatments, further testing, outside referral, preventions) Girl, age 3, was brought to the clinic for hearing evaluation because she exhibits delayed speech and language. Her mother reports the need for much gesturing and pointing in order to communicate with her. Her understanding of speech seems much improved when she is able to see the speaker. She enjoys watching television but insists on turning the volume to a level uncomfortable for other members of the family. The child was somewhat frightened of the testing situation and refused to wear earphones. However, she conditioned easily to the task of placing a peg in a hole in response to sound. Degree: moderately severe to severe hearing loss (profound doesn"t happen till 91)
