SAR HS 369 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Neurovascular Bundle, Gluteal Muscles, Iliac Crest
Document Summary
Bones that comprise the hip joint (pelvis, femur) Muscles associated that act on the hip joint: posterior abdominal wall, anterior thigh, medial thigh, gluteal region, posterior thigh. Ischium: posterior in blue: pubis: anterior in red. Fusion of the 3 pelvic bones occur between 17-17 years. Note that the 3 bones unite at the acetabulum: the acetabulum is the articulating surface for the head of the femur. Some additional features that are important to know because they relate either to the passage of the neurovascular bundle or they serve as muscles of this region are those that follow: Iliac crest: at l4 vertebral level: top part of the ilium, asis and aiis. If you follow the iliac crest around from posterior to anterior you will see that it terminates anteriorly as a small projection known as the anterior superior iliac spine: aiis: anterior inferior iliac spine, psis (not shown)
